ALEX'S TEAM SMASH
128 MILE PEDALO WORLD RECORD!
On Friday 28th August, a team led by Challenging MND founder Alex Gibson broke the Guinness World Record for travelling the 128 miles of the Thames in a pedalo. Not only did they set a new record, they beat the previous one by almost 2 days!
Alex said: "The team absolutely smashed it and I am so proud of everyone involved, together we have rewritten the records and created history."
WHO WE ARE
Six people per day are diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), with most people being given a prognosis of 2-3 years.
Inspired by Alex Gibson who was diagnosed in 2018, CHALLENGING MND was set up with the mission to provide financial support and assistance to those living with MND, to complete any lasting memorable challenges.
MND is a debilitating progressive disease which involves degeneration of the motor neurones and wasting of muscles.
Throughout the deterioration of the functioning of the body, the mind remains sharp and unaffected, making the importance of memorable occasions invaluable.
Our mission is to ensure there are no financial obstacles preventing you from creating these amazing memories.
WHAT WE DO
Making it happen
How we can help
Whilst most Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities admirably raise money for much needed medical research, Challenging MND sets out to create memorable challenges for people living with MND, giving them; their friends; and families; lifelong memories that can never be taken away.
Our aim is to ensure that there are no obstacles, whether it be financial or training equipment, preventing these amazing challenges from happening.
Please get in touch if you know of someone or have been diagnosed with MND yourself and require assistance with any long lasting memorable challenge.
How you can help
We're actively raising funds to support new and exciting challenges. You can support us by attending one of our many planned events or even help us with running them!
See our events calendar or get in touch if you wish to be part of our extraordinary team of volunteers.
With so many opportunities for sponsorship at each event, you, or your company, can play an integral part in making dreams come true.
Reinforcing our commitment
At Challenging MND, we are actively campaigning and raising support for people living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). We are also raising awareness of MND with public speaking and motivational seminars.
Our founder, Alex Gibson, has already lead an incredible life…. a 1st class honours degree in Chemistry; GB Decathlete; a Masters in Forensic Science; a qualified nutritional therapist and Personal Trainer; and on top of all this, since being diagnosed with MND he has so far cycled the Outer Hebrides; walked over 100 miles in one weekend; and cycled from Brentwood to Guildford (and back!) in the space of 36 hours. Last year he also incredibly scaled the 3 Peaks (Ben Nevis; Scafell Pike; and Snowdon) and furthermore cycled the 480 miles in between – all in the space of a week!. Combine this with raising two children with his wife Cheryl, it’s an amazing example of what you can achieve with the right mind-set. If anyone can motivate your school or business on overcoming obstacles, Alex is the person.
Please get in touch if you wish to hear more about our cause or if you're interested in booking one of our motivational talks for your organisation.
